Why free players exist, and what to watch for
A bundled player is a real saving when you own it and it is warranted. Ask two questions of any free-hardware offer: do you keep the device, and what happens if it fails.

The cheapest setup that keeps failing is the expensive one. Two things protect you at this price point: offline playback, so a dropped connection does not blank the screen, and a commercial-rated panel, which is built for the hours signage actually runs.
